Cool Fabrics—Easy Quilting!

I was in one of my favorite quilting stores (The Stitching Corner) today and saw for the first time what is called a “promo pack” of fabric . There were several different promo packs, all from the same fabric company, Moda Fabrics. I was particularly taken with a pack from the line “Faded Memories” by the designers 3 Sisters.

The pack that I purchased consists of 48 different yummy fabrics, all five by five inch squares. With colors in soft corals, yellows, greens, and blues, this pack would make a lovely spring throw or a darling baby blanket. The best part of this promo pack idea is how simple it will be to assemble a quilt using these pre-cut fabrics.

They can be left in blocks and assembled as-is, or cut in half or quartered to make half-square triangles or pinwheels. And for those of you who don’t feel completely confident with fabric selection (it can be tricky—see my last blog), this is a sure fire way to end up with a gorgeous quilt every time. These promo packs are perfect for us quilters who look at all of the luscious fabrics at the fabric store and just want a little piece of each one! You can see the Faded Memories Collection by 3 Sisters, as well as hundreds of other beautiful fabrics at www.modafabrics.com.

[…] Quilts While I was in the fabric store today I saw two great quilting books “Nickel Quilts”, and “More Nickel Quilts”, both by Pat Speth. I have seen these books before, but wasinstantly drawn to them because of my recent discovery of Moda’s “Promo Packs” of fabric – a pack of 48 different 5 inch squares of fabric already cut and ready to use. The quilts in these books are designed to be made specifically with 5 inch squares of fabric. I was amazed at the beautiful quilts that can be so easily made with an array of 5 inch squares and a little imagination. Moda’s Promo Packs and Pat Speth’s books on nickel quilts are such a perfect pair that I just had to write about them in hopes of enhancing your quilting experience. If you’re like me, every once in a while it is rewarding and fun to create a sure-fire, easily-planned, simply-constructed, can’t-mess-this-one-up, quilt!
